Recipe: Cake Pops!

Have you seen the latest rage in baking? They are called cake pops or lolli cakes! I've been wanting to try my hand at making these for quite a while. I finally decided to go for it. I found a basic recipe on

Here's what I bought to make these:
Cake mix
Frosting
Candy Melts or Candi Quik (I preferred the Candi Quik, the candy melts were too thick)
Lollipop sticks
Styrofoam (not pictured)

First, I baked my cake and let it cool completely. I then crumbled the cake into a bowl and stirred in the can of frosting. You may have to use clean hands to blend really well. Cover bowl and cool in refridgerator for about an hour. Once the mix is nice and cold, roll into small balls and place on cookie sheet covered with wax paper. Place the cake balls in the freezer for about an hour. Melt your Candy Melts or Candi Quik in a double boiler or in the microwave. Take cake balls from the freezer, dip the end of the lollipop sticks in the melted chocolate and then insert stick into the cake ball. Be sure not to push it completely thru. Then, dip the cake balls into the melted chocolate. You can dip them in sprinkles or colored sugar. Stand them up in the styrofoam and let them set up in the fridge or freezer.

Here is a picture of the ones I made for my cousins bridal shower. She loves stars, so I found some star shaped sprinkles to use on them.

I got the basic recipe for Cake Pops from Betty Crocker's Fall Baking magazine.

Toe Juice & Hog Wash!

I know you're wondering what the name of this post is all about. Say it out loud and it sounds like you're venting your frustrations!

I was sent a package from Toe Juice to try out and experiment with. I received a bottle of  Toe Juice and a bottle of Hog Wash.

Now the Toe Juice is primarily used for athlete's foot, eczema, cold sores, jock itch and warts. Well I have none of these so I wasn't sure how I was going to review the product. But, my husband came to me and said he had a wart on his finger. Well, I gave him the Toe Juice to try out. He used it for about 2 weeks and didn't see any result. Then, one Sunday at church he came to me and said, "It fell off!" The wart, that is. I know what you're thinking...TMI! Well, if you've ever had a wart, you know that those things are hard to get rid of.

Now I don't know if Toe Juice will work for everyone. If you'd like to try it out, you can go HERE and get a FREE 1oz bottle. Use the code arizonathriftymom and just pay shipping!

Disclosure: I was sent a full size bottle of Toe Juice and Hog Wash plus sample bottles of each in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Carmex Review & Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Carmex asked me to join their very first Carmex Blog Squad. I immediately decided this would be an awesome opportunity. I have always loved Carmex for my lips and I really wanted to try their new lotion and healing cream.

Review:

Now, I knew I would love the lip products. I've used them for years. But, the lotion and healing cream needed to be put through some of my rigorous testing! :o) My first thought when I opened the lotion was to see how I liked the scent. Well, do you remember Cabbage Patch Dolls? That's how the lotion and cream smell! It started to give me childhood flash backs.

Next, I decided to use the lotion after I shaved my legs. I always get those terrible red bumps if I put on lotion after shaving. The Carmex healing lotion did not give me those nasty red bumps. I've been using the Carmex Healing Cream on my heels. Wearing flip flops all summer was not the best idea. But, the Healing Cream is definitely making a difference. It is not greasy and it absorbs really quickly.

The Carmex Healing Lotion and Healing Cream can be found at Walgreens stores, walgreens.com and drugstore.com. They retail for $5.99 and you can even use the $2 off coupon HERE, at your local Walgreens store!

Giveaway:

Carmex is going to supply one lucky reader with their very own Carmex Kit! The total value of this kit is $52.32! The Kit includes (1) Carmex Healing Lotion, (1) Carmex Healing Cream as well as Carmex Moisture Plus sticks and a flavored collection of core products in tube, stick and jar.

Wags Trip!

I ran to Wags and had a pretty good trip! I started out with $3 RR from EOS lip balm and quite a few coupons. My out of pocket ended up being $.87 + $1.62 tax (yikes!) = $2.49. Considering the milk alone was $2.59, I think I did pretty good!

I bought:

Milk - $2.59
Nivea Mens Body Wash - $2.50
(4) Glade Candles ($3 each) - $12
(4) Oreo fudge Cremes, not pictured, donated to the troops ($.89 each) - $3.56
(2) Ricola ($1 Each) - $2
(2) Wags Sodas ($.79 each) - $1.58
= $24.23

I used:

- $3 RR
- $2.50/1 Nivea Mens Body Wash, adjusted down from $3 (10/17) RP
- (2) B1G1 FREE Glade Candles (9/26) SS
- $1.50/2 Glade Candles IPQ
- $4 Glade, Wags October Coupon Book (- $1 each)
- (4) $1/1 Oreo fudge Cremes IPQ, no longer available (adjusted to $.89)
- $1/2 Ricola (10/17) SS
- $1 Ricola, Wags October Coupon Book (-$.50 each)
- $.80 Wags Soda in ad coupon (-$.40 each)
= $23.36 in coupons

I didn't see any RR deals that I couldn't live without. Since I needed milk, I figured it wouldn't hurt to get some freebies with it.
